Unit

We will start the semester with unit directed towards self discovery, self esteem, the brain, mental health, and mental disorders.Throughout the unit you will be developing a portfolio of your work which will include several parts:
1. ASelf Evaluation.(worth 40 pts.)

2. The three theories of the development of self (Maslow, Erikson, Rogers) along with theBelief Paper.(worth 30 pts)

3. Worksheets and projects from the Mental Health Learning Stations
(15 pts. each- 105 pts. total)

4. Laser Disk Presentation with your group or Stress Worksheets
(worth 20 pts.)

5. A Current Event having to do with this unit of study.(10 pts.)

6. A project on a topic in this unit of study. Topics choosen by you but must be approved by Ms. Schade first. You may choose to do any product from the
Products List . If background information and resources are not included in the product itself, they must be sited in the portfolio.
(50 pts.-project: 10 pts.-presentation)

7. APower Point Presentation on an assigned mental disorder.
(worth 40 pts.-worksheets with presentations worth 20 pts.)

8. 10 Interview Questions. You will be choosing a professional to interview. Your interviews will take place during class time. The interview questions and answers should be included in the portfolio.
(worth 20 pts. with answers)

9. Reflection paper. This paper will be completed on the day of the unit test and will include thoughts on the units, what you have learned, what surprized you, previous knowledge you have built upon, etc.( worth 20 pts.)

The completed portfolio (365 pts.) will be due on the date of the unit test. However, the portfolio will be continually monitored throughout the unit. Worksheets from the learning stations, the Belief paper, and the stress information must be checked and initialed by Ms. Schade prior to the completion of the portfolio. As these areas are completed, they should be turned in for evaluation.
